Frequently Asked Questions about my Match Game experience

August 12, 1998

What's your take on the whole "underwear/thong" debate?

To be honest, I didn't mind the whole "underwear/thong" decision. A "thong" or "g-string" are kinds of underwear. What I did have a problem with the "beef" matching "Big Mac" and "Meatballs," moreso with "beef" matching "Big Mac." I felt that a "Big Mac" is NOT just beef. It's (cue the jingle) two all beef patties, special sauce, lettuce cheese, pickles, onions on a sesame seed bun.

Would you have made a complaint on the show to the judges?

On the show, "definitely NOT." Standards and Practices advised us to wait until the break for all queries as to the judge's call. I would have complained if the game had gone to a tie at the end of Round 2 and if Julie had won. No need to cause a stink if I already was the winner of the show!

Why did you choose Vicki Lawrence when she didn't match you at all during the main game?

Simply put...It's Vicki Lawrence. Keep in mind that I had only see two episodes of the new "Match Game" before my taping. I was basing my choice on my knowledge of Vicki's gameplaying skills from other game shows. She was a vet and she knew how to play game shows well, so naturally I had to go with her.

However, given the question, I think I could have won with either of the celebrities. I pretty much lucked out being on the episode that I was on seeing how other shows had questions like "_______ CHEESE" and "_________ BALL!"

What did you do with the money?

Oh, you know the obvious...I blew it on cheap wine and hookers! Seriously though, I still have most of it. It's pretty much my backup funds for my new life out here in Los Angeles.

Be honest now...What did you think of the show?

It was OK and I have seen worse. Yeah, it wasn't the Gene Rayburn version, but it was still pretty much the same game. Granted, the set could have been less cramped, the panel could have had a bit more rotation, and the writing needed a bit more variety, but still, I enjoyed watching it. In fact, it would have been one of the first shows I would have sent a resume to had it still been around!

Are you that much of a ball of energy in person?

It's safe to say that I a tad mellower when I'm not on camera. However, you can still see that big smile on my face if you ever see me walking down the streets of L.A. Also, I'm sure in the right company and with a few drinks of Mountain Dew, I can reach my "Match Game"-level bubbliness!

Have you capitalized on your "Match Game" success?

When I try to pick up potential mates I always say, "Have you ever gone out with anybody who's hugged Vicki Lawrence, Nell Carter, AND Josh Morrow?" Lemme tell you, it's worked wonders! :-P

In all seriousness, when meeting people, it's one of many things in my life that I rarely go into detail about unless I'm asked about it (such as the classic..."Are you that 'Match Game' guy?").

Hopefully, this webpage will satisfy anybody's hunger in finding out what exactly happened that fateful August afternoon and what it's like to be a game show contestant!
