M-A-N-D-E-L was on M-M-C...
Sometime around 1989 or 1990, my school's video productions department took a field trip to the Disney-MGM Studios to watch a taping of the new "Mickey Mouse Club." This was around the end of the 1st season or beginning of the 2nd season. No Britney, no Justin, no JC...this was the era of "The Party." Chase, Damon (swoon!), DeeDee, Albert, and the rest of the gang.
This taping was particularly special because it featured the return of some of the Mousketeers from the 50s...Annette, Bobby, and Don were there. Well, I was wondering why it took so long, but I found this episode on Youtube. And sure enough...you can spot me in the audience!
At about 1:44 in, look for the little Filipino kid bouncing up and down...that's me...
I still have distinct memories of that day...Waiting for HOURS in the holding area before the audience coordinators let us in...Witnessing a near riot happen as the mob of kids got restless...Damon nearly plowing all of us down in the audience as he jumped out during the audience warm-up (set to the sounds of The B-52's "Love Shack")...Expressing a little disappointment when they shuffled us out of the studio after only taping a few segments. We basically saw a few throws to some pre-taped numbers and that was it!
I know music rights are probably the main barrier preventing this, but boy, this is one series for which I'd love to see a DVD box set released!
