Woo-hoo! This was a show that deserved a longer run than it initially received. And to do a little plugging, if you liked the original show, you can catch a marathon of season one on Fox Reality Channel Sunday, January 20th beginning at 9 AM Eastern / 6 AM Pacific.
In Los Angeles county, the health inspectors give restaurants a letter rating: "A" being the best, "B" being not that great, and "C" being stay the hell away from here. As friends of mine well know, I'm very leery of eating at any place that has lower than an "A" rating. I've made friends pick a different restaurant if the one they originally chose has a "B" and there's one with an "A" nearby.
Thanks to my friend Iowa Matt, I've gotten hooked on the Environmental Health Restaurant Rating website. What's great is that you see the actual number that the restaurant received and the reasons why the restuarant got the rating.
I've taken it upon myself to find out why certain restaurants which I've liked in the past now have "B" ratings. The most telling one in recent time is an Arby's that I used to go to in Santa Monica. It's the one at 1340 LINCOLN BLVD. The score...an 81. The reasons:
HOLDING OF PHF - MULTIPLE SERVINGS (MINOR)
RISK FOR CONTAMINATION
DISREPAIR
NON - FOOD CONTACT SURFACES - NOT CLEAN (MINOR)
UNAPPROVED TYPE / IMPROPER USE / IMPROPER INSTALLATION
DETERIORATION / UNAPPROVED MATERIALS
HOOD - NOT CLEAN / DISREPAIR / MISSING FILTER(S)
RODENTS - ACTIVE INFESTATION (MAJOR)
"Major active RODENT infestation?!?!?" Oh wait sir, those aren't onion bits in your beef 'n cheddar sandwich bun...AHHHHH! And even with rodent infestation, the place got a "B." Now, do you see why I'm leery of a "B"-graded restaurants!
All right...time to brave the rain and have lunch at Fatburger. At least they've got a 94. :-)
So, here are eight things I'm looking forward to in 2008...
1. ALPHABEAT I first heard this Danish band at my friend Jon's holiday party and I looooove them. The first time I heard them I got the same feeling I had when I first heard Scissor Sisters a few years ago and Mika last year...
Catchy pop + bouncy melodies + too much adorableness = a band I'm really hoping to hear more of and maybe even see here in the U.S. in '08!
Just check out this video for "Fascination." I dare you to not bop around to it...
2. THE RETURN OF "AMERICAN GLADIATORS" Um, I think the title says it all. This is a show I've been wanting to see come back for years. "Atlasphere," "The Assault," and "Joust" were my faves.
I still remember the time my family and I went to see the "American Gladiators" dinner show in Orlando. It was basically "Medieval Times" but with an "AG" theme. They played a number of the events. When they did "The Assualt," they lowered these giant nets in front of the audience sections.
3. SUPER MARIO KART FOR THE WII It comes with a steering wheel holder for he Wii remote...you can play against people online...it's for the Wii...Um, you can pretty much count on me never leaving my house except for work come springtime.
4. INDIANA JONES AND THE KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL I've loved the "Indiana Jones" movies. "Temple of Doom" is one that's just cheesy hell-a fun. And this one not only has Harrison Ford back as Indy, but it's got the Lebouf and Karen Allen!! And based on a news story I saw...it looks like she hasn't aged at all!
5. TOY STORY MANIA The first big new attraction at California Adventure since Tower of Terror and the beginning of the billion-dollar revamp of the park. While I haven't hated Disney's California Adventure as much as some people have, I've always come away underwhelmed by the park. I hope the company follows through on the plans because everything I've seen of the new "Disney's California" looks like a step in the right direction.
6. MAMMA MIA! - THE MOVIE The movie of the musical! There really needs to be no more explanation than this...My hope is that it's successful and leads to a movie version of Bjorn and Benny's musical masterpiece..."Chess!"
7. NEWHART on DVD Cross off another title on the shows that I've been aching to see released on DVD. Hopefully people will look past the anomalies of the first season (half the cast is different, the show was on tape vs. film) and sales will be good enough to lead to the rest of the series being released in the months and years to come.
8. THE FEELING'S NEW CD The debut album was one of my favorites of 2007. Here's hoping they don't get bitten by the sophmore slump...oh, The Killers... :-/
And hopefully.... - There will be a new version of the iPhone, so I can finally make the switch over!
- The Beatles will digitally remaster their catalog and release it on iTunes. If the remastering for "The Beatles's LOVE" CD is any indication, my ears will be surely salivating...or is that ear wax??
