Do the Donkey Kong

Not usually a fan of this kind of thing, but this one made me chuckle...

(Thanks to Ted for pointing this video out to me...)

Now, if somebody can just tackle Q*Bert, I'll be all set...

Wasn't it Good? (Oh so good...)

Monday night, Drew, Ted, Larry, and I checked out "Chess: The Musical Benefit" at the Ford Ampitheater. Ticket proceeds went to support Broadway Cares Fight Against AIDS.

I had played keyboards for a production of "Chess" back in college and it stands my favorite show for which I've played. Couple that with my love of ABBA and you can imagine how much I've been looking forward to seeing this show.

The performance (touted as a "multimedia concert") did NOT disappoint! It was fantastic in so many ways. I've said it many times and I'll say it over and over again..."Anthem" is one HELL of an act one closer especially when sung by somebody with a voice like one I heard that night (Kevin Earley). "Rockstar: INXS's" Ty Taylor pulled in a kickass performance as Freddie on the equally powerful "Pity the Child." Cindy Robinson was a firecracker as Florence..."Nobody's Side" never disappoints and the choreography brought me back to Russell Mulcahy's video for "Total Eclipse of the Heart." And then there was the Agentha/Frida duet that should have been but never was..."I Know Him So Well" performed by Susan Egan and Cindy Robinson was beautiful. Matthew Morrison's take on "The Arbiter" was wonderful adding a nice touch of humor to the show. Truly great performances by the whole cast...

We scored some really nice seats...Second row very close to the center...The choregraphy during the "Chess" numbers in Acts 1 and 2 were awesome...especially seeing them so close in person. Hee... :-)

For an adaption of one of my all-time favorites, it was amazing...for one that was a "one-night only" performance, it was beyond anything I expected. It's a shame it was only a one-night only performance because this is one I would have implored everybody to see. The venue was really cool...I'd never been to a show at the Ford before. A little chilly in the open air of Hollywood, but well-worth dropping a few degrees in body temperature!

Seeing this reaffirmed not only how much I love the music in this show, but also how somebody needs to tackle a full-scale revival here in the states...hell, I see movie potential in this. This is one of the few musicals where a large percentage of the songs stick in your head and stand on their own outside of the show.

It's definitely the best live shows I've seen this year and well worth the price of admission...Encore! Encore!!!

Feeling _______ :-(

Found out about this about an hour ago...

'Match Game's' Brett Somers Dies at 83

At least Charles has his foil again for "Afterlife Match Game"...

One of the best panelists...one I felt was quite underrated...the chemistry between her and Charles was unparallelled in the world of game show paneldom...

Nothing's gonna change my world...

And ya know what...come to think of it nothing has changed...

Because Saturday night, I saw "Across the Universe" at the Arclight. I have to say this...I'm glad that my generation finally has its own "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Heart's Club Band." And by "Sgt. Pepper," I'm referring to the MOVIE...the 70s one with the Bee Gees and Peter Frampton.

I loved a number of the sequences and the cameo by Joe Cocker and Bono were cool, but it often left me confounded and frustrated. There were really great elements throughout the film ("I Want You "She's So Heavy" probably being my favorite), but it equally missed the mark (strawberries make me SAD!!!). Plus the mole on Prudence's lip was quite distracting...that was a mole, right? Oh well, at least Jim Sturgess and Joe Anderson were cute... :-)

And this was one movie to which I had been really, really, really looking forward. I was hoping that it would have been something on the Moulin Rouge level, but alas 'twas not...

"Hairspray" still has the upperhand in the musical column for 2007.

#700!

Wow...it's my 700th post! And for my 700th post, here are a couple of things...first is a pic of me with Sugar Ray Leonard from Friday morning's taping at "Reality Remix..."

And finally, something that my roomie Arnold put together to showcase the newest addition to my house's carport!

I'm a softie...

Surreal moment of the day...

Just greeted Sugar Ray Leonard in the green room of "Reality Remix." He'll be on an upcoming episode.

Anyhoo, after shaking his hands, Sugar Ray told me that I have very soft hands. YAY soap!

Call me "occupied"

I'm still kicking...just been hella busy with a lotta stuff lately. Got a bunch of projects I've been working namely, "The Search for the Next Elvira," the "Solitary 2.0" reunion special, "Reality Remix," and the big one of 'em all..."The Fox Reality Channel Really Awards!" And it's all finishing up over the course of the next couple of months...

So, all of those things plus buying a new car (a Prius!! which I've named Figment) have occupied my time over the summer...

Until the next time I post...enjoy this video of Karen Carpenter doing a love call to all the aliens out there...

Ain't it pretty?

Oh...and LEAVE BRITNEY...aw, screw it...Just go help out the map shortage...it will only help all U.S. Americans...
