Nothing's gonna change my world...
And ya know what...come to think of it nothing has changed...
Because Saturday night, I saw "Across the Universe" at the Arclight. I have to say this...I'm glad that my generation finally has its own "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Heart's Club Band." And by "Sgt. Pepper," I'm referring to the MOVIE...the 70s one with the Bee Gees and Peter Frampton.
I loved a number of the sequences and the cameo by Joe Cocker and Bono were cool, but it often left me confounded and frustrated. There were really great elements throughout the film ("I Want You "She's So Heavy" probably being my favorite), but it equally missed the mark (strawberries make me SAD!!!). Plus the mole on Prudence's lip was quite distracting...that was a mole, right? Oh well, at least Jim Sturgess and Joe Anderson were cute... :-)
And this was one movie to which I had been really, really, really looking forward. I was hoping that it would have been something on the Moulin Rouge level, but alas 'twas not...
"Hairspray" still has the upperhand in the musical column for 2007.
