As my 28th year closes...

Some random thoughts/musings to pump some new material into the blog...

Well, one reason I haven't been blogging is that for the past week or so, I've had some very special visitors...my mother and grandmother! They visited from Florida. My mother hadn't been here since August 2001 and my grandmother hadn't been here at all, so there was much tour guiding to do!

On their first night here, I introduced them to a number of my closest friends as well as to the wonders of shabu shabu. We did shabu shabu over at Koji at Hollywood and Highland. My mother and grandmother was laughing at the irony of them not being able work chopsticks. Fortunately, the waiter had some forks to relieve us of the wooden conundrums. The family got a little glimpse of the hubbub of Hollywood because just across the way was the premiere party for "Annapolis" at The Highlands.

Last Wednesday, I went with Corey, my mom, and my grandmother to see a taping of "The Price is Right." The played "1/2 Off" that day. Bob Barker introduced me to the audience during the break after the game was played! He also took some time to talk with my family and me after the show. Always, always fun...Even more fun was seeing everybody's giddiness at the taping. My grandmother kept saying, "I can't believe I'm really here! I can't believe I'm really here!"

Thursday, the taping tour continued as my family and I went to see a taping of "Ellen." Bumped into a number of people I know at the taping including a couple of people with whom I had worked on "Whammy" and a number of other game shows. The guests were fun, especially this little 3-year-old who sang the fifty states in alphabetical order. The guy who announces for the Westminister Dog Show brought over some dogs as well. It was basically W.C. Fields' worst nightmare! My family and I even got some air time dancing (or in my case, attempting to dance) along with Ellen. She danced right in front of us!!! The show aired yesterday, but I think it reairs on Oxygen in the next couple of weeks. Keep an eye out for the show with Jon Cryer and Simon Baker.

Friday...the family and I went to Camarillo to do a little shopping....

And Saturday, well...that was the BIG day. My roomie Scott and I threw a birthday party for ourselves. Actually, for me it was an early birthday party. As always, there was a theme...and this year...it was...the FAMILY FEUD!

We had everybody dress up in their best 1977 gear to play the "Feud." We had a game board, a face-off podium, a lucky lollipop tree, and quite an electic gathering of people. We had a little reality representation in the room with Mark Long. And there were some "Feud" vets amongst the crowd including Aaron Solomon, Laura Chambers, and Cathy Dawson (who wore this awesome vintage shirt that was given to Richard Dawson during one of the original shows!). Henry Polic even showed up proving that he's still quite an awesome game player scoring over 170 points on his own during a round of Fast Money. It was an ultimate Feud showdown in the end between a team led by Laura and a team led by Aaron. When all was said and done, Aaron, Rachel, David, Jade, and Joseph emerged as the big winners of the night. Without a doubt, it was one of the most fun parties I've had and it was so nice to introduce my mom and grandmother to all of my friends!

But wait there's more...Sunday, my family and I went to the happiest place on earth. Tried to go on the new Monsters Inc. ride, but the wait time never dipped below 90 minutes while we were there!

Yesterday, I took them along with me for the "Reality Remix" taping to meet Kennedy, Lynn, Alex, and the whole gang.

As you can see, it's been quite a busy, but VERY fun past several days. Now time to see what year 29 holds... :-)

The Winters of our Discontent

It's been so so so so so cold this weekend. Went to my friend Jeff's birthday party at the Fiesta Cantina. It was up on the rooftop and I ended up hovering near the heat lamps all night. I'm so bad with cold weather. It's a miracle I survived my four years in Boston!

Went to Target today and in one my impulse buys, I picked up a new Pepperidge Farms line of cookies...Whims! Ladies and gentlemen, Whims! the new holder of the title of "Feyest Sounding Cookie." Not only is it called "Whims," but the subtitle of the cookie is "Crispy Waves." Ooh...Lemme go out on the lanai and sip some lattes while noshing on the cripsy waves of Whims. Oooh...And they're toffee flavored too! And the box is upside down on one side and right side up on the other depening on what end on which you stand it. Ooooh! Brussels and Cameos look downright butch next to Whims!

Halfway into the new season, who are my favorites of the new SNL castmembers...Andy Samberg (yay for the shaggy hair!) and Kristin Wiig...

Was very sad to hear Shelly Winters passed away...LOVED her in "What's the Matter with Helen" and loved her even more in "The Poseidon Adventure." I think we're due for a Shelley Winters movie night now...

Trapped In the Closet and I don't wanna get out...

So I did a little Christmas money shopping and Monday night, I decided to pick up the DVD of R. Kelly's craptacular masterpiece, "Trapped in the Closet."

I finally got a chance to see ALL twelve chapter. OH...MY...GOD...I won't spoil it for you...in fact, I refuse to spoil things for you quite yet, because I IMPLORE you to go get the DVD and watch this. Words cannot describe my reaction as I was watching the head-exploding madness of Chapters 10 through 12. And there's gonna be more! It's going to go up to Chapter 30!!!

Afterwards, we started to watch the R. Kelly commentary remix where R. Kelly is on camera MST3K-style giving commentary...or in his case...telling exactly what the lyrics are telling is. Oh R., such a master of subtext and subtlety...

As the first week of the year closes...

Some random thoughts...

- New Year's Eve...went out for lunch with my friend Drew. Braved the rain and went to the CPK near the Virgin Megastore in West Hollywood. I did a double take when I saw Nick Carter waiting to get seated. We got seated before him. Heeee...Mr. Carter didn't look too great... :-Z

- Spent the New Year's Eve with Ted, Larry, and the rest of the gang. Endured and sometimes triumphed in a three-hour marathon session of "Karaoke Revolution Party." I now have "Take on Me" ingrained in my brain. Damn you, A-ha!

- A big YAY for "Scrubs'" return. That show puts a big smile on my face every time I watch it. :-D

- As much as I wanted to put together a "Top 5" list for 2005, I have to say, that I really couldn't come up with a "Top 5 CD" list. A lot of the CDs I bought were pleasant, but nothing really stood out for me last year. Most of the CDs I got were decent, but not great...at least nothing of the caliber of the Scissor Sisters debut CD or The Killers' "Hot Fuss." Ben Folds' "Songs For Silverman" was a nice CD, but it needed a bit more kick to it. Paul McCartney's new CD was definitely more solid than "Driving Rain," but I wasn't clamoring to listen to it again and again. And The Click Five's debut had some good songs, but again, it didn't get much mileage on my iPod.

- In fact, the CDs I was giving the most play were back catalog titles...Klaatu's debut album, the follow-up "Hope," and "Sir Army Suit"; Billy Joel's "My Lives" box set, and my favorite re-release of the year, Elton John's "Captain Fantastic" deluxe set.

- There are still a lot of movies I want to see that I haven't yet..."Brokeback Mountain," "King Kong," and "The Producers."

- Pleasantly surprised by "Deal or No Deal's" performance. Even more surprised by how good Howie Mandel was...

- Got the sheet music to Styx's "Mr. Roboto"...Watch out everybody... :-)

- One of the first purchases of the new year...The "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?" plug and play game...it was a tad disappointing especially after hitting a question I had already seen on my SECOND playing of the thing. GRRR...

- Want to help out with a little project I'm doing for my birthday? If so, E-mail me.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Here's hoping everybody has a great 2006. I'll save my end of the year/New Year's resolution type post until tomorrow...I'm partied out...

A couple of New Year's Eve observations...There was a comfort seeing Dick Clark back on TV counting down to the New Year.

And one other thing...what the hell was up with them bringing out the Mariah Carey float...oh wait, that WAS Mariah Carey!
