There are times in our lives when we come to a major crossroads and today was one of those times. This has been something that's been building up for some time and it all came to a head this morning. This morning, I got a call where I was presented with an opportunity that I could not pass up. While I can't get into details about this particular opportunity which I'm pursuing, it has led me to a career move which I had been contemplating for some time, but had never had the ability to carry out until now...
After four-and-a-half wonderful years at the company, I am leaving my post as manager of development at FremantleMedia. My final day there is two weeks from today...
It was a tough thing to do, but the new place where I'll be working presents some exciting new challenges and a chance to really broaden my horizons. As an added plus, I'll be working with some familiar faces which will make the transition even that much easier.
In looking back at the four-and-a-half years I've worked at FremantleMedia, I have to say it's been a blast. I've gotten a chance to do so many things there that I never imagined I'd ever do. I've had a hand in bringing back one of my all-time favorite game shows when we revamped "Press Your Luck" as "Whammy." I was close to helping bring back another all-time fave when we did "Match Game" as "What the Blank!" I helped produce a live stage show version of "The Price is Right," which is by far, my all-time favorite game show. I've been lucky enough to work with a number of great producers, many of which had a hand in shows I grew up watching. And one achievement I'm most proud of is, of course, "1/2 Off," the pricing game I created for "The Price is Right," a show that influenced my decision to get into the television biz. Getting a second pricing game on the show (which should debut later in the year) is icing on the cake!
There have also been many other fun projects that I had a chance to work with in our development department, some of which were great game show projects that unfortunately never saw the light of day for one reason or another.
It's only fitting that one of my last projects at the company has been this series of new "game show moments" specials I've been producing. In a way, it's been a culmination of everything I've loved about working with FremantleMedia.
It been a wonderful ride and while this one is ending, this next one on which I'm about to embark looks like it's going to be even more great and even more exciting. So many emotions have been brewing inside me as this phase of my life beings...I'm a little excited, a little sad, a bit nervous, but most of all, eager...eager to take that next step in my television career.
Thanks to all of you out there who've been so supportive through this and throughout my years at FremantleMedia. Thanks for the kind E-mails and messages about the different projects on which I've worked. To those of you who haven't been big fans of what I've done, I'm sorry that I've disappointed you. Still, you must remember (and this is one of the big things I've learned about this biz)...there are many moving pieces to a show and one man cannot move mountains.
So there you have it...let the next chapter begin...
