My bananas on TV
Well, the fruits of my labor are finally hitting air in a few days...bananas actually...that is, GAME SHOW MOMENTS GONE BANANAS, the last project I produced for
FremantleMedia before I left the company in April.
GAME SHOW MOMENTS GONE BANANAS is a series of specials highlighting the funniest moments from game show history.
The first of these five specials debuts on SATURDAY, MAY 21st on VH1, with many a rerun, so you'll have plenty of chances to see it. Here's a link to the list of airdates and airtimes:
"Game Show Moments Gone Bananas" Schedule for Episode 1
Essentially a new special will air every Saturday at 10 PM (9 PM central).
And coming up next week...an even BIGGER unveiling...more on that later... :-)

Well done, Mandel. You guys (collectively) found some excellent gems. I can't wait to see what's in store for viewers on future editions.
Take care,

Being in the UK, obviously I haven't seen the show, but I read second-hand that it featured "quite a bit of... Distraction footage" from the UK.
If this is true, then I am disappointed; if you produced the show and made, or at least approved, the decision to include those clips - which, as producer, you presumably would have done - then I am personally disappointed in you.
Anyone can say "you suck for including a show that I don't like" and that's not reasonable. However, I am disappointed that you chose to give mainstream publicity to any show which overtly attempts to entertain by showing people in needless distress.
I am very disappointed that any channel would feel that a show as sadistic as Distraction was something that they wanted to commission. However, I am even more disappointed that a knowledgeable and influential game show fan such as yourself would choose to give its existence publicity to those who otherwise would not have known about it.
While there is a long-running tradtion of game shows putting their contestants in extreme situations to provoke interesting and exciting reactions, I think Distraction is a highly unwelcome development in the genre because it so overtly promotes physical discomfort, distress and pain.
I do not object to the promotion of any one particular show, but I do object to the promotion of any members of this sub-genre and regard it as a poor judgement on your part that you have chosen to do so. I had hoped the fact that The Chamber only received three episodes was a clear indication that people don't want to see such forms of entertainment; please consider the possibility that game show fans are likely to have turned over from your show, repelled by particular clips you may have chosen to include.
You may feel that it is acceptable to revel in other people's pain and discomfort for your own entertainment (see your own entry about the concept of a Wheel Of Torture at your Hallowe'en party). Well, I wouldn't attend one of your parties where that was going to be a feature, and I feel offended by your judgement that torture for entertainment is an acceptable thing to bring into other people's homes. As a TV producer selecting clips, you are one of the few people who has that personal capability. In my view, you have chosen offensively badly on this occasion and must take the responsibility for your decision.
I recognise that as someone who lives in the wrong country ever to see your show, my opinion is actually of no significance whatsoever. Nevertheless, you have offended and disappointed me, so I am taking the opportunity to give the blame directly where it is due.

I'm a VERY lowman at VH1 who's recently gotten an email at work calling for a boycott/cancelation of this show for its "racist" nature (which I don't understand at all). The sender of the mail claimed to be in the name of Eastern religious philosophy, with more links than any individual could possibly digest regarding Asian racism. Is this some kind of personal attack against you?!

"Asian philosophy is much more individualistic. Western philosophy is
founded on religion as a system of social conformity to create the
perpetual state. Asian philosophy is founded on struggle for perfection
of personal individuality; there's no concept of original sin, no
dialectic thinking, no social contracts. In Asian philosophy, you would
never give up the individual to the state; that's sissy philosophy.
Western philosophy says we're all losers and sinners and victims. In
Chinese philosophy, we're all soldiers; if we're not fighting for
personal integrity, then we deserve to be victims, we deserve to die."

OMG... the contestants on Distraction know fully well what they get themselves into, it's a lesser disaster than Fear Factor... or The Bachelor! Those shows inflict true distress... on both the veiwer and the contestant! Mandel your show was just fine... anyone who thinks that the "Wheel of Torture" was an actual game... and not a parody of something is disturbed.
