Figuring out food fads...

Some random thoughts on food that have clogged up my neurons like hardened fatty deposits on a fast-food feaster's arterial walls...

Am I the only person in the world who feels bad for carbs? They've become the pariah of the nutritional world. Nobody wants to deal with them any more. Last Saturday, I grabbed some lunch at Quizno's with my friend Shaun. Ordered one of my usuals there...The smoked turkey sandwich with chips and a drink to make a tasty trio. I had a hankering for some Cool Ranch Doritos. I perused the array of chips and snackies...Cheetos, Nacho Cheese Doritos, Sun Chips, an assortment of Quizno's chips, and there it was...the familiar gold triangle over a sea of blue bag...Cool Ranch Doritos...but wait! There was something different about this bag...It was labeled "Frito-Lay" EDGE. EDGE?!? Upon further inspection, these were LOW-CARB Doritos! I walked down the counter just to make sure I didn't overlook the regular Cool Ranch Doritos section...But you see, there was NO Cool Ranch Dorito section! AAAARRRRGGGHHH! C'mon...that's insane! I understand that some people don't want carbs, but leave something for the handful of carb-lovers left in the world. And what's with the "EDGE" labeling? When I picture Dr. Atkins, the last thing that comes to mind to mind is "edgy."

The other thing is the rise of the chipotle. Grabbed some dinner at the Boston Market this evening and the big new item was chipotle meatloaf (which essentially was a spicier meatloaf). Nothing says traditional New England home cooking than a smoked chile pepper from south of the border. Wendy's had a chicken sandwich with "chipotle mayonnaise." My favorite fast food Mexican restaurant out here is Chipotle. It's Chipotle-mania! Prediction by next year...A Ben and Jerry's flavor called Chipotle Your Love on Me. Swedish lingonberry ice cream with chunks of chipotle peppers in them...they'll be stocking the freezers at Ikea with pints of this spicy, fruity, creamy delicacy. And of course it will be low on carbs...

Hello Again! I don't watch enough TV to comment on the reality TV shows - but I can't believe that I found someone who talks about food more than me! Great job!

Well, now it's the other way around. EDGE chips are gone and all we have are carb chips. This pisses me off as a low-carb dieter, and I'm doing everything I can to bring them back!!
