I'm as happy as a little game-boy

Had a couple of "quests" over the past couple of days. The first was to take advantage of the "free scoop night" at Baskin-Robbins. My goal was to hit the three Baskin-Robbins in my area. Two of them are literally blocks away from my house. Well, around 6-ish, while driving around town before dinner, I pass by one. There was a big line down the sidewalk. Cripes...I decided then to wait until after dinner. So, I went out to dinner with my friend Drew and on our drive back to my place, I passed by the other Baskin-Robbins. It's almost 9 o'clock at this point. There's about an hour left of free ice cream. And there's an even longer line for ice cream. Double-cripes. Foiled again!

But alas, that wasn't the only quest in which I was foiled that evening. My other quest was to find me a Gameboy Advance SP. Ted was able to get one for Larry on Monday and my friend Nate (not Nathan) got it the weekend before, so they were in stock...somewhere! I just wasn't finding them. During my lunch break yesterday, I hit the Best Buy and the stores over at the Westside Pavilion (ya know, the mall where Shelley Morrison - Rosario from "Will and Grace" - was busted) and no luck. I had to get back to work, so I made one last stop at the Aaahs! store on Wilshire. They had one...but those price-gouging bastards were selling one for $149.99, $50 over the regular price. I decided to continue the quest that evening in the valley. I went to the Toys R Us in Burbank. No luck there...I then dragged Drew along to Target before dinner. No luck there...but we saw Ted there. He suggested asking the salesperson. It was a lost cause...I don't even think the salesperson at the video game department had a full grasp of the English language. "GAME BOY...VIDEO GAME....HAND HELD ONE....PRETTY ONE..." Not a clue...not a clue at all...

Drew and I headed to dinner at the Outback. Before we headed home, I made a detour to the Best Buy in Burbank. They didn't have any either. But they did have the new Thicke CD. Yes, I'll admit it...I bought a CD recorded by Alan Thicke's son. Shut up... :-P

So alas, I went to bed last night with neither of my two quests fulfilled. Blarg...Flash forward to this morning. As lunch approcahted, I decided to give the Toys R Us on 4th Street in Santa Monica a call for the hell of it. I asked if they had a Gameboy SP in stock. The salesperson says that they had ONE left in blue (cobalt, for you Gameboy purists). I asked her to put a hold on it. She did and I zipped over to the Toys R Us during my lunch break. They did indeed put it on hold for me. So, I snatched it up. Ahhhh...So sleek, so compact, so pretty...in nice cobalt blue...Mmmmm....

Oh, for those of you all peeved off about the results of last night's "Idol," I have a little bit of advice. And I know a lot of you are. Ted was seething when I got back home from dinner. You can read about it in his recent blog. Anyhoo...Here's my advice to you. VOTE NEXT WEEK! If you're not happy with what happened, take advantage of that two hour window and vote like crazy. My roomies and friends didn't vote last night, so they really can't complain too much about what happened. It's like any election...you have a say...and if you feel so strongly about what should happen, VOTE DAMMIT! Who would've known that the basic lessons of democracy could ring true in a show that the company I work for produces. :-)
