Back to school
Yesterday was awesome...Went to the "Get Schooled" event that GSN held at the Hollywood and Highland complex. It was a fun event. Throughout the afternoon, they called up people to play a straightforward quiz. After several rounds, the contestant were whittled down to a final three to play for a $10,000 scholarship. Todd Newton did the hosting duties and as always did an excellent job. He never ceases to amaze me. In addition to handling the Q&A format well, he did a fine job ad-libbing and keeping things moving along as the organizers of the event got things ready for the next rounds.
A bunch of my friends met up with me there. During one of the breaks, a few of us went over to California Pizza Kitchen and had lunch with Bob Boden and Todd. It was really great. I got a chance to catch up with Bob and Todd, both of whom I hadn't seen in a while and we all talked "shop." Both of those guys are the best. Todd even plugged my website a few times while working the crowd. Fun, fun stuff. :-)
Friday night, I saw "The Matrix Reloaded" with Ted, Eddie, and Nathan. I've got to say, I was a bit disappointed. It wasn't an awful movie, but it wasn't great. I really didn't get into it until the scene where they go up to find the Keymaker. The first hour was a bloated, confused mess of existentialist mumbo-jumbo. It just got too bogged down in philsophizing about things not necessarily seeming what they be coupled with a dash of predestination. Granted, some of what it was trying to say was interesting, but it didn't need to do it so heavy-handedly. That all said, the highway scene kicked ass. I think what bothered me was that the whole thing was so joyless. There wasn't a single fun scene in the movie. There wasn't anything like that "jujitsu" scene between Neo and Morpheus from the first movie.
Saw a trailer for "T3" during the previews Friday night. Am I the only one who has a "who cares?" attitude about this sequel? I mean, did they really need to extend the story beyond "T2"? "Legally Blonde 2" looks cute though. :-)
Oh...almost forgot...I got my Honda Civic back Friday! Woo-hoo! The body shop did an awesome job fixing it up. On top of that, they did quite a job cleaning it. It's the cleanest-looking it's been in quite some time. The first night driving it though was weird. I must have gotten used to the rental car I had which was considerably bigger. Still, I'm glad I'm done driving the Buick Century. It certainly was not a car I was suited to drive. But then again...is there ANY car that I'm suited to drive??
Finally...during the lunch Saturday, the topic of "who do I think will win Idol?" popped up. I honestly don't know...it's too close to call. As I said in my post-results show blog last Wednesday, Ruben and Clay have very strong followings and very different followings. And both guys have very different styles. As you all know, I have my own personal favorite but either of those two deserve the title of "American Idol." This one will be close for sure and it'll be an interesting showdown. Can't wait for Tuesday and especially Wednesday night!
