Where it's at
Tonight, Drew and I went to see the Beck/Flaming Lips concert at the Universal Ampitheater. It was wonderfully weird...The Flaming Lips served both as the opening act and the backup band for Beck. And joining the Lips onstage during their opening set were a bunch of Lips fans dressed up in furry animal costumes. The furry fans were there pretty much throughout the whole Lips set. And the giant animal people didn't just stand there. They also provided some extra lighting effects. Throw in a bunch of giant balloon balls and confetti being thrown into the audience and you pretty much have one of the oddest openers I've ever seen for a concert. Beck was great. In addition to the new stuff, he played a lot of my favorites. The only song I was hoping to hear which he didn't perform was "Sexxlaws" off the "Midnite Vultures" album. This was the first Beck concert I've been to. I actually was supposed to see him in concert years ago...April 1, 1997 to be exact...but that was thwarted by a late spring snow storm the covered Boston. The wait was worth it. I've decided that when I grow up, I want to dance like Beck. He's got this robot-meets-James Brown-meets- George Jefferson-thing to his dance groove. It's pretty freakin' awesome.
