:-) , darn ya, :-)
Last night, Ted, Larry, Drew, and I went to see "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?" at the El Capitan. "Roger Rabbit" is one of my all-time favorite movies. It always puts such a big smile on my face. Something we didn't expect was a little panel discussion about the film before the screening featuring some of the movie's animators as well as the voice of Roger Rabbit himself, Charles Fleischer! Great, great, great stuff...The only byproduct of seeing the movie again was that Ted came to the conclusion that I'm Roger Rabbit. Now honestly, what does a big-footed, clumsy, stumblebummy, bad-driving cartoon character who loves to make people laugh, but can't hold down a single shot of liquor have anything to do with me? Oh, wait...yeah...moving on...
After the movie, Drew and I had dinner at the California Pizza Kitchen where he and I came up with some more questions for the "Match Game-North Hollywood Squares" party. This party is going to kick some booty. Drew's come up with a lot of good material for the party. Now, if there's just some way he can parlay that talent into a real game show job...
Today, I finally saw "Star Wars Episode 2: Attack of the Clones." I'm one of the bigger "Star Wars" fans, but I gotta say, this kinda snuck up on me and I wasn't all crazy-excited about going to see this like "Phantom Menace." I was VERY surprised at how good this was. This has to be the most visually overwhelming movie I've seen. The CGI effects fit so organically in the film and it doesn't have that CGI-ness that dogged some of "Spiderman." And the sense of humor from the original three films was back. There were flashes of the old "Star Wars" spark through the film. And Yoda kicked ass. No, I take that back...He kicked MAJOR ass! This totally blew away the "Phantom Menace." It's probably the third-best of the five "Star Wars" films.
Did a little shopping after the movie and picked up a few new toys. At "Toys R Us," I found this Activision TV Games gadget which basically looks like a Gamecube controller on steroids. There's a wire that runs from it to the video and audio inputs on the TV. You turn on the controller and voila! You have a choice of playing 10 classic Activision Atari games. It all runs from the controller and 4 "AA" batteries! "Pitfall" and "River Raid" are as addictive as I remember them. :-)
I picked up a couple of DVDs over at Best Buy, including "Midnight Madness," the 1980 Disney-Paramount co-production about a late-night scavenger hunt through L.A. It's notable for being Michael J. Fox's first movie in the U.S. I remember it because it played incessantly on HBO when I was growing up and because of that catchy disco theme song that played over the credits. We watched a little bit of it before headed out to a party and we played the "pick out the L.A. spots" we've been to game.
And speaking of that party, we went to Adam, Joel, and Katie's housewarming party tonight. Fun stuff. We saw our friend Nathan there after not having seen him for the longest time. They've got quite the nice house. We met a few cool people at the shindig and savored in Katie's delicious chicken puffs. So far, it's been quite a fun weekend...Tomorrow should be quite busy...Stones tix, brunch with Erin, and the big TiVO/VCR/end-of-May-sweeps clusterfuck! YAY!
